Hare on the Run

Description

If you ever find yourself at Burnt Head Cape on the western coast of Newfoundland in the summertime, make sure to visit early in the morning to see all of the arctic hares hopping around. I couldn't move more than a few feet without stumbling upon a new arctic hare. These large rabbit species love to hang out in windswept rocky outcrops, barrens and coastal cliffs where there is low-lying vegetation. Arctic hares can also reach speeds of up to 60 km/h thanks to their powerful hind legs. And the lateral placement of their eyes can give them a nearly 360 degree, which helps them spot predators like raptor birds and foxes.
